Scene Title Genesis
Synopsis When one thing is destroyed, another is always created. Out with the old, in with the new.
Location The Ministry of Magic
Date 25 Jan 1995
Watch For Michael Noble tellin' it like it is!
Logger Holly

January is rolling to an end and thus far today, things seem normal within the Ministry. Departments are running with some interference from interrogation squads, employees are wondering who's getting sacked next. Thus far this day, things are pretty darn normal within. Interdepartmental memos are zooming crazily, there's the occasional bang, sometimes the floor trembles, but that's just the guys down in Experimental Charms having some fun.

—-

Okay, she never promised to behave. Even if they tried to get. Nice thing about being a Metamorph, no one can recognize her! Too bad, though,t he Visitor ticker says "Nymphadora Tonks" on the badge. Why would she actually go through he Visitor exit when she works here? And why is it — after morphing back to her usual appearance, and dropping the concealing cloak to reveal a bouncy hot pink tutu type skirt over black leggings and a hoodie sweater—she's deciding to /climb the damn statue/ in the middle of the Atrium? She does slip a couple of times, once catching her ankle in a crooked bronze elbow and hanging upside down. "Whups. HI THERE." And then she rights herself up and finally reaches the zenith! AND PLANTS A FLAG…nevermind. There's a cough. "Might I have your attention please? I'm looking for the Acting Minister of Magic. Emphasis on the ACTING part? Anyone seen her? She's about THIS short, THIS wide, and looks like a squashed toad?"

—-

The main entrance of the Atrium (that is, the one used by visitors) is currently descending towards the floor of the Atrium - a telephone booth with a diminutive blonde woman inside. If there were any other visitors, they had to wait for the next one for the sheer amount of things she carries takes up all the space within the little glass booth.

Under one arm, Chase supports a small, garish carpet bag while her right hand clasps the handle for a large and overstuffed suitcase. Her left hand supports a gilded cage, within which a red-tailed hawk is desperately trying to sleep to no avail. She nudges the door open with her copious luggage and half-stumbles out, gazing up towards the ceiling and around at the grandeur that is the Ministry of Magic.

—-

Well, there's a hearing at the Ministry and despite the fact that he's probably still a wanted man, Remus Lupin still resolves to go. He's angry, everyone's angry. He's just there to add a more personal voice to the anger. GRRRR! And he won't rest until he has his voice heard, whether or not it ends in his imprisonment.

—-

Needless to say, Tonks's display has the daily routines coming to a crashing halt. There are even a few crashes that accompany dropped jaws as people stop, turn and /stare/. They knew the freshman Auror was a bit loony, but this? She's just /begging/ to be sacked. Doors along some of the upper levels open, and people file out to gawk, gasp and gossip as to what's sent the Auror 'round the twist.

Word starts to spread fast, wizardkind are talkative folk, and the short and squat /Minister/ soon appears. (Dawlish on her heels.) Umbridge's eyes narrow fiercely at the statue and she coughs, "Hem, hem." Of course, it's loud, it carries, and it's her obnoxious way of making her presence known. "Nymphadora Tonks, my office, /now/," the command is delivered in a saccharine sweet tone, sounding more like a demand than a request.

—-

Next to come down through the visitor's entrance is Celaeno Bristwick. Business with "the old Dom Gas", as she likes to say. Some form she can never remember the name of. However, events in the atrium seem to have interrupted her in her errand. "Why is someone climbing up that statue?" she asks, receiving a shrug in reply from some passerby.

—-

Jack steps out of the floo wearing the new greatcoat that Rosie gave him for Christmas, and his wand is in his hand. He's twirling it around in his fingers. He steps away from the Floo and toward Tonks, only a couple steps, clearly waiting for someone else to come tumbling through the green flames.

—-

The fun part about being an Auror is that you get to arrest people. And he's got an arrest warrant, properly and duly signed, sealed, and delivered. And in triplicate, just in case. Alistaire Phoenix is already in the Ministry. In fact, he hasn't left since the Auror office within the Department of Magical Law Enforcement got off their lint-covered posteriors and finally realized they needed to See Justice Done. He moves away from Tonks and the fountain and confronts Umbridge, his hand on his wand, a scroll in his other hand.

"Acting Minister Umbridge, I am authorized to take you into custody on a series of charges, including miscarriage of justice, conspiracy, false imprisonment, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit permanent grievous harm by authorizing members of the Ministry to deliberately incarcerate an un-potioned werewolf (one Remus J. Lupin) with Miss Holly Maplewood and to ensure that she would be bitten, authorizing the use of the Killing Curse and the other Unforgiveables, conduct unbecoming of the Minister of Magic (acting or otherwise), violation of 20 segments of your oath as the acting Minister of Magic, conspiracy to deprive Muggleborn witches and wizards of their legally-recognized rights, conspiracy to overturn due process regarding the trial of one Sirius Black, a host of laws and rules intending to deprive certain witches and wizards of their rights to attend Hogwarts or to own wants, illegal restrictions against Muggleborns and half-breeds, and an entirely excessive use of the color pink in all of your office decorations." He pauses for just a moment and then adds, "It would be in your best interest to come quietly, and you will get your fair day in court, unlike anyone tried under your 'rule'." His voice never wavers, never rises, and is quite bland. But his wand is still pointing at her.

—-

Sirius is here. He's nervous about it, considering he's walking into the dragon's den. So that he doesn't create a mad dash for everyone trying to kill him at once, he's altered his appearance with some transfiguration. His hair is still much shorter than anyone's seen it since his days at Hogwarts. It's effective enough so that no one will attack him, until he chooses to drop the guise. He enters via the floo behind Jack, mindless of the ash clinging to his cloak and robes.

—-

Holly's actually only been out of the hospital for a few hours, but she's made use of that time. Since the Ministry still has her wand, she's acquired another one - properly bought, this one with a phoenix feather core - and cleaned up a little. She's also found a charm to eliminate her sense of smell for a few hours so she can walk around in public without the desire to gag.

She's also walking with the aid of a cane as she steps through the green fire after Jack. It's dark oak, carved to look like two intricate, intertwining vines, with exotic flowers here and there in a slightly lighter wood. There's nothing wrong with her legs, but the puncture wounds around her ribs make it hard to put weight on that whole side for very long. Tonks has already started the party, it seems. Holly would smile, but she just doesn't feel like it anymore, especially when she notices Remus. The feeling is distinctly uncomfortable; he's been in her dreams lately as a raging, vicious beast. At least there's no fear, though… This can be mended. With time.

Almost immediately after she enters, she hears Alistaire, and, in the midst of all those glorious charges against Umbridge, her own name. Her face falls… She's going to have to stand her ground, though. No panicking. This is what she's here for.

—-

It's supposed to be a nice, quiet day to deal with the Wizengamot and all the business therein. Sir Michael Noble steps into the Atrium to retrieve some paperwork he's forgotten here, and glances around at the sight. He's had a short discussion with his son, but nothing of substance yet, so the man stops short, watching the scene unfold. He spots Jack and his eyes become unreadable. When his daughter's… when Alistaire starts reading the charges, Noble starts to move toward his son and the company around him. At this point, he's keeping everything close.

—-

As one of the many lifts in the atrium comes to a halt, there is a gaggle of people that empty out of it into the atrium. One of them, is a man that sort of resembles an old lion, though do lions have such bushy eyebrows? Or yellow eyes? Many would recognize the head of the Auror Division, Rufus Scrimgeour. Stepping out of the lift, he arrives just in time to see hear the charges leveled against Umbridge. There's almost a twisted smile as he leaves the safety of the lift and heads towards the crowd.

—-

"Ah, Minister!" Tonks, however, does not step down. "I'd rather not, thanks." She seems to be waiting for something. Ah, there it is. Alistaire makes his way forward and confronts Umbridge. "My colleague's got a few words for you," Wanting to be cheeky, she resists the temptation to amplify Alistaire's voice so that the Atrium can hear his every word, bu things carry as well as it is. However, she's quiet, and outside of standing on the top of the statues, she's not doing anything to create a 'scene'. And it should be noted, Tonks' wand is now out and trained on Umbridge's 'guard'.

—-

Chase begins a quick trot towards the security desk, the weight of her belongings causing her to lean forward a little bit and move perhaps a bit faster than she intended. Physics still applies in the magical world, usually when it is most inconvenient. She urgently whispers for a few gawkers to get out of the way before she stops short of the Event occurring. She listens to the charges laid out - upon the Acting Minister no less - and positively gapes.

And then she recognizes a name! And then she sees a familiar face! GAWP.

—-

Celaeno turns around, looking at all that's going on. Arresting the Acting Minister? It seems mad! Sure, she didn't agree with many of her policies, but she couldn't see grounds for *arrest*… At this point she's basically forgotten all about her actual business there and just watches to see what will happen.

—-

Umbridge was fully prepared to haul in Tonks, to have her tormented, then sacked. However, Alistaire speaking up has her looking like a fish out of water. She may be a witch, but she's not that good of one, wielding an abusive hold rather than magic. She gapes a few moments, then sputters, "This is preposterous! The lot of you have been against me from day one!" Of course she's going to play the denial card for now. She is glancing to see how fast she can make it to a lift, the floo network, or better yet, retreat to her office. HER office, where she can use the fireplace in there, since you can't apparate or disapparate from within the Ministry. "Phoenix, my office now, Tonks, you as well!" Best to try and maintain some semblance of authority, they'll have to pry it from her stubby fingers.

—-

Jack hears the clank of the cane on the floor, and realizes that Holly's made it through the floo. He turns to back up, and offer her any support she may need or want. "Alright, luv?" He whispers to her out of the side of his mouth. He sees his father approach, and gives him a cheeky smile. At this point, Jack is in tight control of his emotions, and the facade is up. However, it's only Phoenix's quick action and his need to stay strong for Holly that keeps his wand still. He cannot resist a jab at the minister, though. "No, being against you only turned when you decided your power was more important than impartial justice."

—-

"No, Acting Minister," Alistaire says implacably, this time flicking the scroll and letting the long list of charges, duly sealed by his boss over yonder, flop open so she can read them and verify that the order is properly written out. "You will come with us and you will go through the exact legal procedures for times like this. You will have every legal opportunity, the same as any other witch or wizard, to prove your innocence before the Wizengamot. If you choose to resist arrest or flee or call a lackey, I will Stun you where you stand, as is within my authority as an Auror who actually follows the laws set down for our job. You, Madam, are neither the law, nor above it. Please surrender gracefully."

—-

Dawlish for once looks conflicted. He was left out of the arresting loop, and he turns to look at the Minister. He's always been loyal to those in power, but now that it looks like Umbridge's power is ending? What's this Auror to do?

—-

The fact that there are wands trained on the 'Acting' minister makes Holly feel a lot better. Leaning heavily on the cane, she reaches into her pocket for her own wand so she can also direct it in the Minister's direction. A dangerous act, to be sure. Curses flit through her mind easily, and some of them are highly illegal. She's never had a bad temper, but right now, Holly would gladly throw all of her Bear Claw level-headedness out the window - AND her law degree - and Avada Kedavra this toad to hell.

"Yeah, I'm good," she says, not looking at Jack, but tunnel-visioning in on the Minister. She makes her way through the crowd so she can hopefully meet Umbridge's eyes. Obviously, the lawyer is more than pissed. It's only Sirius' hand on her shoulder that prevents her from hexing Umbridge right then and there.

—-

Tonks hops down from the statue, using a charm to make sure she doesn't snap an ankle in the pool, and she moves towards where the arrest is taking place. As much as she's giddy that the toad is getting her just deserts, she knows that this is serious business, and there's no margin for error. When she sees Remus glancing her way, she turns a smile on him, but then she's focused on the task at hand. She says nothing about the charges. She doesn't trust herself to.

—-

"I wouldn't recommend trying any of the exits, Madam." Scrimgeour speaks, as he nears Umbridge and the others. His voice is cool, collected. "You might be able to run, but you wouldn't get far. The Aurors have been put on alert on my orders that should you run, you will in fact earn yourself the same status you have so graciously placed upon others." The issue of the Prophet he carries is neatly folded and tucked under his arm. "If you come willingly, I promise you that no harm will come to you."

—-

Celaeno walks up to the group curiously. "Excuse me… Are you all quite serious about this?" she asks. "I mean… this seems a little extreme… don't you think?" She sounds a bit nervous… after all, this is definitely a dramatic moment!

—-

Chase is usually pretty aware of social situations, able to tell when to speak up and when to keep her trap shut. But she's just spent a few days portkeying from place to place to reach England and she is tired, dazed and requiring a place to put down all these heavy bags immediately. So, from the crowd of onlookers, she leans forward to look at Holly.

"Psst!"

—-

This.. This is not happening. For once that sickly smile that bodes ill for others fades as Umbridge appears slightly slack jawed at this turn. Acting quickly, rather than using her brains, she gives Dawlish a shove in front of her as she whirls to try and race back to the sanctity of her be-kittened office. There's no word, no warning, she just moves as fast as her short, stubby legs will carry her!

—-

Sirius wants to withdraw his own wand, but that could be seen as a violent act and might get him in trouble. So for now, his own wand remains hidden, unless anyone attacks him first. He /will/ defend himself. Fortunately however, all eyes are on Umbridge. His hand on Holly's shoulder squeezes gently as if to reassure her. His silence is broken when he sees what Umbridge is doing up on the balcony, and he shouts, "Stop her!," pointing up at the woman, and the sudden Auror in the witch's spot.

—-

Celaeno turns around again to watch Umbridge run. "…I suppose that answers my question…" she says, stunned. What a day to be here…

—-

Run, Umbridge. Run away, so she has a chance to get you back. As soon as the old toad takes off, there is only the briefest of hesitations before Holly decides on a non-career-ending curse. "Locomotor Mortis!" she yells. That ought to stop things, though if she had her way, it would have been a lot worse.

In fact, there might have been another curse uttered, if not for Chase, whom Holly spots through the crowd. Her eyes refocus, the satisfied smile on her face twisting into one of surprise. All she can do is raise the hand her wand is in, waving her pinky and ring fingers a little.

—-

"Jack…" While Chase may be approaching Holly, Noble the elder is moving to talk to his son. "Jack, what's … " When Umbridge moves, he mutters to himself, "bad choice." He continues to watch, perhaps an uninvolved observer to report to the ruling body. He purses his lips and keeps silent.

—-

Lupin smiles a little at Tonks. Look! He's left the place! He's gone outside! Aren't you proud? He's a big boy now! But that smiles lasts only a fraction of a second as Umbridge switches places with Dawlish and begins to run. Well, he can't stand for that! But neither could someone else, apparently, as a spell is cast and whizzes past them. He glances back to notice Holly. His face goes only slightly more pale before he turns to see where Umbridge has gone. He casts a second spell toward Umbridge to stop her, just in case Holly's misses, which hopefully it won't.

—-

Chase has decided to put her luggage down on the floor nearby for a moment, blinking as Holly suddenly busts out some magic on the toadish woman that is apparently Dolores Umbridge. Not really knowing what to do in a coup, the blonde legal aide from the States decides simply to clap her hands. Slow clap. Cue an 80's power ballad.

—-

Ok, so he didn't expect her to go quietly. Since the day Umbridge seized power, Scrimgeour has been watching. And doing his best to stay on her good side. When she does start running, he turns his gaze to follow her path. With the other Aurors here, there's no need for him to get involved in the spellcasting. The yellow eyes drift over the the fugitives, who seemed to have shown up despite being wanted. Interesting.

—-

Celaeno blinks as Umbridge goes down. "If all you've said is true," she says, looking toward Alistaire, "then I have only two words, which I think are apt in this situation…"

She smiles a bit as she thinks back to her childhood. "Ding… dong."

—-

Alistaire already had his wand out, he'd given warning. And she chose to ignore it. By the time Holly's leglocker curse wings past him, he says one word, wand aimed at his quarry's generous posterior.

"Stupefy."

—-

Oh Hi, Dawlish! Tonks runs full tilt into him in effort to get a clear path to Umbridge. And she'll shove him to the side. "Petrificus Totalus!" gets said just as Alistaire's stupefy goes off. And did she hear the echo of a Leg-locker? "Hopefully we didn't overkill much…"

—-

Poor Dawlish. In the surprise of being thrust forward, he never sees a barrage of spells flying towards the Minister. He really has to be one of the worst Aurors to ever have been hired. Taking the first wave for the now deposed Minister, he falls to the ground with a thud, leaving Umbridge's back open for the more that are incoming. He's trod upon, left on the ground. Not that he's aware of it all. The incoming spells do the trick and Umbridge goes down, face first onto the polished floor, even sliding forward a bit. There's a slight crack heard, possibly her wand breaking.

—-

There's a fierce pride in Jack's eyes as he watches Holly use a less deadly jinx on the Minister than many they've discussed over the past few days. He turns to answer his father's question but returns his attention to the 'Minister' when the question seems to become moot. "Atta girl," he whispers again to Holly, just quiet enough for Holly to hear. Jack sees Lupin, and the glance he sends him is filled with pain. At the moment, he isn't sure he can deal with that. First things first.

—-

The appearance of Chase hasn't been noticed by Sirius, or much of anything on the Atrium floor. The scene of Umbridge choosing flight is a bit dominating. An 'excuse me,' is murmured as he pats Holly's shoulder and moves away to go to his best friend. All of this going on, he can't have Remus standing alone. A smile of support is made at Lupin before his gaze turns back up to where Umbridge has gone down and is being apprehended. He's possibly more thrilled just being here, watching, than if he had drawn his wand and joined in.

—-

When spells started being fired, Sir Michael started to fight his way toward the action - his son is up there! - only to shove his way to be greeted by the sight of Umbridge lying prone on the floor. For a moment he stares at her hideously pink form, then with a disgusted sneer waves his wand in her direction. "Incarcerous." Calmly spoken, there is no lack of intent; ropes of black fly from his wand-tip towards the fallen 'Minister'. Her team of bodyguard Aurors are given a raised eyebrow and a half-smile that most of his children inherited. It's a dare. Fight him. Go on. Try.

—-

"Thank you, Sir Michael," Alistaire says gravely as he moves forward to take proper custody of his new charge. His gaze shifts to the locations he spotted those other spells coming in from, and his face is impassive, save for an amused twinkle in his eyes. "I'll go get her processed, each t crossed and every i dotted," he says as Scrimgeour approaches, nodding to his boss. "And if you take a picture of her like this," he warns, lifting his wand toward a Prophet reporter about to take a shot of Umbridge's knickers, "you won't like the hex I'll use on your camera." After a moment, he levitates Umbridge's prone form. "Make a hole!" he suddenly bellows, his voice ringing out through the Atrium. Nice pipes, those.

—-

Holly isn't quite satisfied with the apprehension of Umbridge. It should have been more painful. That thought bothers her, but she'll let it slide, telling herself that it's perfectly understandable for her to feel that way. Her hand returns to her pocket, putting the wand back in it so she can put both hands on the cane. Too much excitement for one day.

Dark eyes watch the other ministry officials warily now. Holly is wanted, and her being here wasn't really a risk so much as it was the end. It was worth it to see Umbridge taken into custody, though.

—-

"AW," she says to Alistaire at his comment about the camera. "I wanted a good memory of this." She tucks her wand away and takes a deep breath. And she's said it once she'll say it again: Jack's dad is awesome. However, Scrimgeour's around, and Tonks is painfully aware that while she herself didn't have 'Fugitive' stamped on her forehead, she definitely has the 'conspiring' and 'aiding and abetting' charges as well. "Wotcher, Bossman," is greeted, and then she'll drift towards people sjhe knows, probably the closest being Lupin. But no, Tonks isn't vacating or anything.

—-

Chase remains by her bags, having suddenly produced a legal pad and a quill to scrawl down what has been happening. Everything that has been happening. One might mistake her for a journalist.

—-

Celaeno backs off quickly. Now that's a man with authority, she thinks. She glances towards the group that just won this victory for justice. Hold on, those people are… She's even more stunned, but doesn't speak. Umbridge had been arrested… so these people, even though they were fugitives, whose faces had been all over the Prophet, were most likely innocent of their crimes. Who would have thought?

—-

So events have unfolded in an interesting manner. More interesting than Scrimgeour could ever have predicted. "Thank you, Alistaire." he nods, as he works his way through the hole that magically appeared for him in the crowd. "Tsk tsk. Madam Umbridge." he starts, looking at her prone form. "I'm sorry it had to come to this." Really, he's not. "By order of the Wizengamot, you are hereby removed from the post of Minister for Magic and by general consensus of the council I am hereby ordered to assume the post." That's like adding insult to injury.

—-

Jack strides over toward his father and Phoenix, mirroring the 'Noble half-smile'. He nods to his father and continues to hold his wand, though much more loosely than before. He stands beside his friend, offering support if necessary. He may not be an Auror, but he wants to be here for this.

—-

Lupin gives the slightly changed Sirius a little nod, watches everything unfold. Good, the beastly toad is down and captured. He gives a smile to Tonks once more as she gets nearer to him, but his attention is always constantly divided between what's going on and those surrounding him. "That'll teach that evil, evil lady to try a trick like that again." He nods firmly. "And hopefully teach others who may try what she has done that that sort of behaviour shall never pay, and that justice shall be had!"

—-

Sirius remains standing firmly with Lupin, a smile is offered to his cousin. "Good job," he murmurs at her, even as Scrimgeour makes his announcement. Black can't say that he's surprised after this session that Umbridge is now out of power. The placement of Scrimgeour? That's a bit of a surprise.

—-

When Alistaire moves to take that vile woman into custody, Sir Michael's pale eyes follow the Auror's wand towards the would-be-photographers. "Might I make a suggestion?" he addresses the crowd at large. His voice is firm, but he does not shout. Michael Noble very rarely shouts. He doesn't need to. "Go home." As polite as his manner is, there's an edge to it that seems to hint that this is really less of a suggestion and more of a…recommendation. "There's nothing further to see here." Jack's approach is acknowledged with a nod, but nothing more. He still needs to have a Talk with his son. As Scrimgeour speaks, Sir Michael shakes his head and mutters under his breath. "Even a toad deserves some respect." That said, he makes no move to interfere. This woman messed with his family, after all.

—-

Holly is fairly in the know, given her preoccupation with law, but she doesn't know the ins and outs of every single person in the Ministry. In fact, she only scratches the surface when it comes to knowing one Ministry official from another, but she hopes that Scrimgeour will be far better than Umbridge. At the moment, though, she's hurting. Raising a wand against someone is rather strenuous, after all.

"Got a story to tell you, Rowena," she says to her newly-arrived legal aide. "Probably not the best place for it, so we'll have to catch up later. Welcome to Great Britain."

—-

Celaeno doesn't quite know what to do. Should she clap or something? Eventually she decides. "Er… congratulations, Minister!" she says with a smile, still not quite seeming to believe what she's seeing. "And… er, good luck… oh my, I've just remembered why I was here!" She slaps her forehead a bit as if witnessing the arrest of the Acting Minister was not something distracting enough to make anyone forget their business. "I only hope they haven't cleared out the old Dom Gas after all this…" She quickly makes for the lifts, only briefly looking back curiously at the crowd.

—-

Chase nods, quickly scrawling down a note on her legal pad of parchment.

Note to self: Hear Miss Maplewood's story.

She looks back up, not quite sure what the legal procedure is in the midst of a coup d'tat. She clears her throat, speaking up in a squeaky kind of voice associated with nerves, "Do I still need to check in?"

—-

Alistaire makes sure Umbridge is properly and correctly turned over to the processing department within the Auror office with strict instructions on how that case is to be handled, trusted people who won't screw it up or let her lackies make a play to free her. And then he returns to hear the tail end of Celaeno's statement and he gives the woman a startled look as she departs. "Daft," he mutters, shaking his head as he returns to Scrimgeour and murmurs the names that now have custody of their prize prisoner. "If you could all kindly go about your normal business, everyone," he offers after Sir Michael's already said his bit. "I'm sure the Prophet and Wireless will have all the dirt you want later. Life goes back to what passes for normal."

—-

Jack has heard of Scrimgeour, obviously, and holds his own opinions on the man. He turns to nod at the new Minister, and then, as his eyes sweep the area, notices that Holly is starting to falter. He quicksteps back toward the woman, sliding an arm around her carefully. "Do we need to get out of here?" He lets her lean on him if she needs. He wasn't expecting her to have to be a part of the arresting force. Chase gets a smile flashed in her direction as a greeting. Her accent gives her away as another American. "Hello, Rowena." He follows Holly's mode of address. "I'm Jack Noble." Since things appear to be dying down here, Jack feels safe letting his guard down. A little bit, anyway.

—-

Sirius is given a smile in return, then Tonks stretches and yawns. Holly and Jack are spotted and the Auror will wave towards them. Grant it, with Lupin here, there's probably a recipe for a minor disaster, but hopefully that won't happen right now. However, Tonks just seems to focus on Scrimgeour. And his appointment. "Bet he turns out a bit better," she lets Sirius and Lupin know. "He kept Umbridge from throwing me out after all."

—-

Holly's eye catches Celaeno as she makes her way toward the lifts, and one tired brow quirks just a little bit. She's the one that's been randomly talking through this whole ordeal! Clueless, Holly thinks to herself, or so out of touch with reality that she can't figure out what's going on.

Back to Chase, though. Holly places a hand on the blonde woman's shoulder. There's a purpose to that, it seems, as the lawyer leans on that shoulder for some extra support. With Jack there as well, she's almost comfortable. "Jack, this is my legal aide, Rowena Chase. I sent for her a few months back, but … red tape." For awhile, she just catches her breath, nodding in Tonks' direction as a means of saying 'hello,' and also 'thanks' and possibly also 'you rock, you're my hero.' To Jack, she says, "I think I'm okay for a little longer. Doesn't seem like we're gonna be arrested."

—-

As the former Minister is taken away, Scrimgeour turns to glance over the crowd assembled. After Alistaire makes his own announcement, the /new/ Minister has one of his own. "Yes, do keep your eye on the Prophet. There will be a full statement from the Ministry in tomorrow morning's edition." As he talked, a few other Aurors arrived, albeit late and whisper in his ear as they point at Sirius, Jack, and the other fugitives. Waving his hand dismissively, he moves towards them. "I would appreciate it if you all would stop by /my/ office tomorrow. I believe, there are a few things we should discuss." Yellow eyes dart to Tonks. "You may join us as well, Ms. Tonks. If you wish."

—-

Sirius glances towards Holly, Jack and the new face that is Chase. He's a bit torn by remaining with Lupin, or going to Holly's assistance, even if she's in good hands with Jack. "I should slip off before.." Damn, he's getting some shocked stares, and noting a few subtly going for their wands. So sneaking off is a bit late in the game and will be next to impossible without some flash and fireworks. Then, it's definitely too late, seeing as they've been spotted and now approached by Scrimgeour. More than a little on edge, not knowing what to expect now, he simply nods to the newly instated Minister, "Of course." He glances around at the Aurors, hit wizards and other Ministry employees, clearly expecting an arrest or being pulled into custody.

—-

"Hi Jack," Chase answers in a rather undeterminable American accent, chewing on her bottom lip as she looks this way and that. She looks for a moment as though she might ask a question in the interest of social niceness when she spots Sirius, eyes widening a little before she turns back to Holly.

"Isn't that … ? Wait, so do we even have a case here anymore?"

—-

"Hmmm. Not yet, anyway." Jack isn't sure. He nods again to Scrimgeour, relaying his assent to come to the man's office. "Will do, sir." He turns to Holly. "Well, I'm kind of glad she didn't…" His voice trails off. "You'd have had her helping you go through all those papers instead of me…" And things would have been remarkably different for them, at least in that one respect. "Welcome to London, Miss Chase." Jack smiles again. Charm? Check. He glances at Holly, and frowns slightly. "Alright, but if you get too tired or sore, just let me know. Don't want you getting overwhelmed again." Not just because it aggravates things.

—-

Holly hasn't really seen Sirius since she stormed out of his house, and she finally stops ignoring him long enough to look at him. Her eyes are probably best described as tired, and a little melancholy, though, in answer to Chase's question, she nods. "I'm gonna need you more than I did before," she says quietly. "Yes, this is Sirius Black."

When Scrimgeour approaches, Holly is ready for her own incarceration. She is, however, pleasantly surprised when he doesn't order their arrest, and that earns the lawyer's respect. A look is offered between Sirius, Jack, and even then to Lupin, though the last only remains for a fraction of a second. "I'll be there," is all she can think of to say.

She almost wishes those Hit Wizards would hit her with an Avada Kedavra. Quick, relatively painless. It would almost be easier than facing the world.

—-

Lupin glances back toward Holly. A sharp breath is taken as he gazes at her. He is just about to move in her direction before Scrimgeour approaches. He all but stops dead in his tracks. He's torn. He wants to talk to Holly, and bad, but the new Minister of Magic, now the ex-head of the Auror division, is so near to him. It wouldn't exactly be wise to just pay no attention to him. He takes a deep breath. "Sir, Minister, of course I shall come and meet you tomorrow." Yes people, he knows he's a fugitive werewolf already, you don't need to point so much! "But, seeing as I'm considered a fugitive by the previous Minister of Magic, I leave the decision up to you whether to imprison me for the evening. Though I can make assurances that I have every notion to be back here tomorrow."

—-

Sirius raises a hand to place fraternally on Remus's shoulder as the pair speak to the new Minister. "The same goes for me." It's like the Three Musketeers, only there's two. All for one, one for all. A quick glance is cast towards Holly and her assistant, giving them a brief nod, his attention mainly on Remus and Scrimgeour.

—-

Satisfied that the crowd is dispersing, Sir Michael steps over towards their new Minister just in time to hear his 'request' of the fugitives. One hand coming to rest firmly on Jack's shoulder, he squeezes warningly and turns to Scrimgeour. "Can I take that to mean, Minister, that I am free to bring my son and his friends home for the night?" They look like they could use some of Edana's home care, all of them. It'd be a sight more comfortable than a Ministry-appointed cell, anyway.

—-

"You want to see several people close to me, of /course/ I'm going to be there." Whether he says so or not. maybe that's why he offered in the first place? So there wasn't suddenly a pink haired Auror sitting in his Minister's chair when that happened? Outside of that, Tonks seems interested in whatever invisible tension between Lupin and Holly. She knows a meeting needs to happen, but /now/ Not the place, really.

—-

"Excellent!" Scrimgeour smiles, nodding to all the assembled Ministry personnel. Aurors. Hit witches and wizards. Everyone. "Tomorrow, we start a new chapter in the Ministry of Magic. A chapter that hopefully will be brighter than the one forged by the previous…person. Unlike my predecessor, I don't expect perfection. Merely that you give it all you have." It's not quite the most effective speech ever given, but the best he can do for spur of the moment.

—-

Alistaire arches a brow. "I fail to see a reason for Lupin or Black to be in custody," he notes to Scrimgeour. "Nor Miss Maplewood. All such orders should be rescinded pending the outcome of Umbridge's own trial, until the matter can be /fairly/ sorted out by the Wizengamot directly and without any prejudice." He keeps his eyes on any fool about to try and hex Sirius or Lupin or Holly, his own wand still in hand.

—-

Sirius would like to chat with Holly, to talk to her, to let her know she has his support, but having them all under one roof? Probably a bad idea right now. It's a bit conflicting, he wants to be with all of his friends, new and old. "Remus, are you comfortable with.." Does he really need to say 'being around Holly'? His words are muttered to his friend, and will do what makes Lupin most comfortable.

—-

Holly doesn't really want to go home with anyone. There's no full moon tonight, but that doesn't mean she doesn't feel dangerous simply by being among other people. She could deny the whole thing, act like absolutely nothing's happened, but she can't. Maybe one day, she'll feel better about the whole thing, like she can fit this disease into her daily life and deal with it like werewolves have for generations.

Holly has no intention of staying with Michael Noble or the others tonight. She'll find somewhere else to sleep. "Sir, I already have a place to stay tonight, but thank you," she says. There's no other place for her to go, but she'll find somewhere. Heck, she could even go back to St. Mungo's and have them check on her injuries. Yeah, she'll do that.

—-

"Frick!"

Chase facepalms and shakes her head, "That reminds me! I completely spaced on organizing somewhere to stay. London has hotels, right?"

—-

Jack himself turns toward Holly. "Would you be okay with going to Tourchwood Manor with me? Mum can be a bit much and …" His voice trails off. "But, there you are, luv. An invite plain as day." He smiles. They'd discussed it. "I need to talk to Da at any rate." He turns to his father. "We'll have to see who all comes, Da." And there's Holly, answering his question before he really gets it asked. "If you need the flat…" He pulls out his key. "I'll give you the password to the wards as well if you want…" He frowns, torn between father and lady. "Consider yourself part of 'my friends', Miss Chase, or you could stay with Holly." He replies easily. "We'll find you somewhere suitable."

—-

Lupin sighs softly. "I'm thinking of just going out on my own tonight. You can stay with the Noble's, Sirius. I think you need a bit of time away from the Black Estate anyway. You've been cooped up there too long with Kreacher. But…" He sighs and mutters, "Until me and Holly get a real chance to talk alone, resolve some issues that no doubt she is having as I am, it would be all around uncomfortable at best." He obviously hasn't heard her say that she's not going to go.

—-

Sir Michael Noble hasn't survived the Wizengamot, his wife, his children and now Umbridge by being an idiot. "Miss Maplewood, I am afraid I must insist." His eyes flick to Jack then, a silent 'you got some splainin' to do' passing to his second-eldest. "Any lady who has managed to tame my Jack into giving up his wards is more than welcome in my family." His tone is formal, but his smile is kind. "His mother would never forgive me if I let you stay anywhere else." Chase's dramatic…moment of self-harm is noted, but as Jack extends the invitation, he feels only the need to nod confirmation.

—-

Of course, once things are sorted between Holly and Remus, Sirius has every intention of stepping up to the plate and offering support for the American. Whether it's financial, a roof over her head, or whatever she needs. He feels he owes it to her. Then again.. *sigh* "Holly, if you aren't comfortable staying with me after what happened, or going back to your own place, you will be perfectly safe with the hospitality of the Nobles." Although the sooner everything is sorted out, the better, maybe. "I was going to offer my own home as well. You and Miss Chase will not need to think about looking for a place to stay." He smiles to Jack, see Holly? Several options are here for you! Sure, Holly said she had someplace to go, but he doesn't quite believe her. Not after dealing with Remus's isolation of the past several days. "You don't have to be alone." A nod is cast towards Jack and Sir Michael, "Your invitation is a gracious one…" And sorry Remus, looks like his mind has quickly changed. Being with people, out in the open for a change? "Moony, my home is yours, please use it." There. Decision made. He's going to Torchwood for the night.

—-

Smiling at Alistaire's proclamation, Scrimgeour nods in agreement. "Anyone attempting to apprehend or harm those decreed as 'fugitives' by Madam Umbridge shall answer directly to myself and the Wizengamot." Hopefully that will keep everyone in check. Save for the half of the wizarding world that's going to be celebrating. "With that, I must take my leave. Good day." Making a light bow, the newly appointed Minister heads for one of the floo fireplaces.

—-

Holly leans close to Jack and mutters, "I really can't be with people yet. I'm sorry." Then, to Chase. "We'll sort things out soon, okay? Stay at Jack's place for now." She'd hoped to have Chase move in with her in Hogsmeade, but at the moment, she's not so sure that's a great idea. "Besides, I— "

And now she feels cornered. She doesn't want to be rude and decline the invitation, but she doesn't want to be around people, either. "…Uh." She's not sure Chase heard what happened. And she feels it's only fair to warn the Elder Noble what, exactly happened to her. "Sir, I'm a werewolf. I'm not sure it's safe for me to be in your house."

—-

Well that…explains quite a lot. There is a slight widening of Sir Michael's eyes, and Jack gets a more narrowed glare. Words; they will be had. Later. "Miss Maplewood, my daughter cured me soundly of that prejudice this past summer." Soundly, loudly, furiously and a whole slew of other adverbs she most certainly did not inherit from his side of the family. "As she put it most effectively, I will borrow her words. 'That is the stupidest excuse I ever heard! So long as they remember ta take their Wolfsbane, they're the lot of them a helluva lot safer than Mum on her monthlies.'" There's a wryly affectionate smile as he refers to his Siobhan. "Your condition does not alter or invalidate my invitation." On that, he seems quite firm.

—-

Alistaire glances around at the crowd around them, and no one seems about ready to start flinging hexes and jinxes around. "At least we got that out of the way," he mutters toward Scrimgeour. "You want I should tell Shacklebolt he just inherited your old job? If you give it to me, I'll hex you myself and move to Romania." Although hearing words regarding Siobhan, Alistaire's head snaps around, half-expecting his girlfriend to actually be present. And he seems quite put out that she's not here. Tease.

—-

"Holly, don't be ridiculous, there's no full moon tonight and you are most certainly safe to be around." Sirius gives Holly a look similar to ones he's given Remus for the same excuse. Sir Michael's words have him guffawing with laughter. Oh. My. Word. That is /not/ something that needed to be shared. "Let's get going then? Drinks are on me, I think we have a few things to celebrate along with talking about."

—-

"Mister Noble, sir?" Comes Tonks voice. "YOu are possibly the most awesome thing to ever walk this earth. YOu're really the Bees Knees." Cue Tonks in AWe.

—-

Scrimgeour stops just short of the floo, hearing Alistaire's question. "If you see Kingsley before I do, then you can feel free to divulge the news to him." he says, scooping up a handful of floo powder. "Otherwise, I'll relay it myself tomorrow." The corners of his lips turn up in a wide grin at the mention of hexing and Romania. "Now, we can't have that." he adds, stepping into the green flame. "Bristleburr Residence." he states, vanishing as the powder drops and the flames roar.

—-

Oh, Lupin heard that last part of what Holly said. "Not safe? Not safe?! What do you mean you're not safe?!" He lets out a little laugh. "Look, you've been around me when it hasn't been a full moon. Before that night in the cell, would you have said I was unsafe? No! Being infected with lycanthropy does not make you unsafe! Going on a rampage and purposefully hurting people makes you unsafe!" He lets out a little scoffing noise. "You said you were an advocate for werewolves and their rights! Well, I guess that was a little bit of a hypocritical statement!" Oh, this was what he was afraid of! He turns to look away. Deep breaths, Remus. Deep breaths. He turns to face her again. "Look, a werewolf is only dangerous on the full moon and, as Sir Michael said, and as his daughter Siobhan, who I taught, said, it's only if we don't take the potion that we're dangerous!" He sighs. "Look, your life has changed! But it doesn't have to be a bad thing." And that's what he has to say about that.

—-

Chase drops her legal pad and quill on the floor at the sudden revelation, decrees 'Frick!' to the world and then stoops down to pick it all up. She gives Holly a careful look although she isn't heading for the hills - werewolf advocacy was a big part of her work, according to her dossier after all. As the offers of places to stay start to roll in, Rowena looks a little overwhelmed and starts to wring her hands in front of her.

"Oh, uh, thanks!" To who she says that is anyone's guess.

—-

Jack is torn between being completely embarrassed and highly amused at his father. "Da." He grinds out the word, though there really isn't any malice behind it. When Lupin starts speaking, Jack turns to him. "Moony…" His voice carries a hint of warning. Don't go there. Not right now. But he did. Jack closes his eyes and turns to Holly, gazing her straight in the face. "Come with me, Holls. I don't think you'll have much to worry about, and I can …" He considers. "I'll do my best to keep mum from bothering you too much. Please?" Cue blue puppy-dog eyes.

—-

Her eyes grow to just about the size of saucers as she very quickly looks pointedly toward the floor. Did he really just say that? For a moment, she almost forgets the whole 'unsafe around people' thing, and the corner of her mouth twitches upward briefly in a smile that she actually has to fight back into a neutral expression. Colour Holly equally embarrassed, impressed, and grateful. "Yeah, but if I…"

Scratch someone. Accidentally bite someone. She's not sure how the latter would happen, but it could. She could trip and… Fine, no.

Holly should stand her ground and politely refuse the invitation. She wants to catch up with Chase, speak with Sirius and Jack, and maybe even have a good, girly cry with Tonks, but just being curled up on her own would be bliss.

When Remus finally does talk to her, she glares. Her eye twitches, and she looks either about to cry or about to slug someone. No, Holly, he's right, she tells herself. "All right, I'll go. But I have to go to St. Mungo's first."

—-

A hand moves out to pull on the sleeve of Remus' coat. Just a little tug. Don't get too carried away. Tonks isn't sure if she's going to be following anyone to Torchwood. But she'll play interference here. Sort of.

—-

"Mister Phoenix, please feel free to join us as well." Glancing over his shoulder at the Auror he just might be getting used to the idea of having in the family, he smiles a wicked smile that Alistaire would recognize from another face entirely. "Unless you'd prefer to wait until you've Sio between you and my wife." It's entirely up to him. "That is eminently acceptable Miss Maplewood." Moving to stand on the opposite side of her as Jack, he offers his arm gallantly. "Shall we, my dear?"

—-

"I have no reason to have Siobhan between myself and your wife. I have indeed not done anything worth being hexed over," Alistaire says quite gravely, but glancing briefly at the werewolves. When someone bustles past with a worried look, muttering about 'how dare they let them out in public?', Alistaire's wand seems to be the source of a jellylegs jinx that suddenly afflicts the mutterer, although his arms are folded and the wand is merely innocently poking out from under his sleeve in one of his folded hands. "Yet," he adds with a cheeky as all hell grin.
