Character History:

Rowena Euphemia Chase was born with a rather unfortunate name in the small, wizarding settlement of Roanoke Island off the coast of North Carolina. As a child she heard stories of the Wolf Island, a heavily-wooded island not far from Roanoke that was entirely hidden by a powerful illusion charm. It was said that it was a place populated entirely by werewolves and they used the illusion charm to make unsuspecting muggle ships run aground there so they could add to their ranks. Chase was always fearful of the Island, quite glad when she got the chance to leave for the Salem Academy when she came of age.

Her time at Salem Academy was quite a positive one. She was never one of the super-popular girls, but she found her niche. She was quite skilled at transfiguration, excelling in most of her classes to the point where she even won several academic awards. She diligently tried out for the Quidditch team every year but, unfortunately, was turned down due to the fact that she just wasn't that, um, good.

Her true skill lay in Transfiguration, although she also did very well in History of Magic. Her parents had hoped for her to serve in the magical government of the U.S. like they had, and it was in youthful defiance that she eventually chose to defend the undefendable. The great crackdowns that saw many werewolves imprisoned or subjected to cruel restrictions in the eighties saw a young Chase begin practicing law in an effort to eventually repeal the laws that persecuted them. She was fearful of the creatures, yes, but at the same time she felt that they were people with a terrible affliction and as a result they needed her help.

Of course, nobody is going to hire a young witch who just suddenly decided she wanted to be a lawyer. She knew where she wanted to go with her career but she'd need help getting there, which led her to initially become a personal assistant to one of the members of her country's Wizengamot. It was here, in her younger years, that she saw firsthand just how narrow-minded this panel of wizards and witches were. And where she saw Holly Maplewood argue for the first time.

The lawyer's passion inspired Chase and she quit her job at the Wizengamot soon after, signing up to work as a legal aide for Holly's firm. She was, thankfully, accepted although it took her a while to actually get to work with her newfound idol. In fact, her first case with her was a doozy! She was called from overseas to help her argue in London! A dream come true for Chase who also harboured secret desires to see the world and meet strange, new people.

Unfortunately held up by overly-rigid security checks given recent troubles in both the U.S. and England, Chase nevertheless eventually arrived to take up her post …

Personality

Chase is a neurotic mess a lot of the time and a walking non-sequitor at others. She is a nervous flooer, unable to utilize the magical network without causing some kind of damage or injury to herself or others. She is an extremely competent legal mind when it comes to research and academia yet has progressed very slowly due to the fact that she has spilled more cups of pumpkin juice and accidently tread on the robes of more Chief Warlocks of the Wizengamot that any other legal aide in history. She can also be extremely clumsy. You are warned.

However, it is interesting to point out that she is a very capable academic. She did very well in many of her classes at the Salem Academy, specifically Transfiguration, and probably could have pursued a more magic-oriented career path if she weren't interested more in law and making the world a better place on a more permanent level. She really does want to become an advocate for werewolves but this is difficult for her as she has a phobia of them.

Finally, she fails miserably at most physical activities. She has wanted to play Quidditch for most of her life yet she is probably the single worst player on the Eastern Coast of the United States. She falls over a lot, has crashed several brooms and a quaffle breaks her nose more than it goes through a goal hoop when she is nearby.
