Character History

Arthur was born the middle of three brothers to Septimus and Cedrella Weasley. His mother had been a member of the infamous Black family, but was disowned when she chose Septimus, who, although a pureblood, was seen as unworthy of such a match because of the poverty and blood treachery that Cedrella’s parents felt “plagued” the Weasleys.

Arthur was bright and brave right from the start. Even as a small child, he would strike up conversations with anyone who happened by, not one to play shy as a toddler. He showed little hesitation when it came to danger and did have a bit of a knack for getting himself into trouble. As the middle child, he was sometimes overlooked, but this taught him to be an independent thinking and chart his own course.

His magic manifested early and often enough that there was no doubt he would be bound for Hogwarts. His boyhood obsession was with Quidditch, which he followed fervently. When he was 11, he received his letter and went through the usual rite of passage, buying his supplies in Diagon Alley before boarding the Hogwarts Express and crossing the lake in a tiny boat to the castle.

The Sorting Hat didn’t need long to decide where to put him. The Weasleys almost always ended up in Gryffindor without fail, and Arthur was certainly bold and brave enough to be a good fit there. He made a lot of friends right off the bat, and fell naturally into the Gryffindor rivalry with Slytherin house. It was at Hogwarts as well, that he was first exposed to Muggle culture, after making friends with some of the Muggle-born students. Over time, especially after an unsuccessful attempt at trying out for the Quidditch team, his fascination with this Muggle world continued to grow, until gradually, it began to replace Quidditch as his main obsession; though the sport would always hold a place in his heart, and he would continue to follow the pro league even in adulthood.

In his fourth year, he was making his way up to the Gryffindor common room, lost in thought, musing about a Transfigurations essay he had to write before the next day. Thus distracted, he barely noticed he was following a slightly younger housemate on the journey up. When she tripped in her haste, it was either instinct or fate that had him quickly reaching out to catch her before she could fall down the steps. From that moment on, he and Molly Prewitt were good friends… at least until his seventh year, when he took things to the next level by asking her out on a date for a Hogsmeade weekend.

To say that they hit it off would have been an understatement. They spent the rest of the year getting closer (sometimes at great cost: Arthur still bears the scars from that time he was caught out of bed after curfew, having sneaked out to take a night-time stroll with Molly). After he finished Hogwarts, the year away from her, especially during such dangerous times, was extremely heard to bear. As soon as she graduated, he proposed; they eloped a week later.

The dark times were getting darker, but that didn't stop the young couple from starting their family. Arthur supported Molly’s decision to stay home, understanding how important it was to her to be there for her children. It made the finances tight, but he had faith that they would manage to get by. He’d fallen easily into a position in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office, and while there was some thought of trying to find something that paid a little better, Arthur loved his job too much to give it up readily. During this time, Arthur found himself offering his support to the original Order of the Phoenix, being an inside man in the Ministry. With a young family to think of, he felt it only right to stay off the front lines, but that didn't keep him from showing full support to Dumbledore and the Order.

Their family continued to grow, as Charlie followed Bill, and then Percy, the twins, Ron, and finally little Ginny. To this day, Arthur is sometimes still amazed that he could be so lucky to have all of them. When You-Know-Who finally fell not long after Ginny joined them, Arthur returned to the more routine life as Ministry employee and caring father. His obsession with Muggles had only increased, especially after it had come so close to You-Know-Who subjugating them all. Perhaps to compensate for the sudden decline in excitement and the fact that the children were starting off to school one-by-one, he managed to procure a Muggle car, a Ford Anglia, and began tinkering with it. At first, it was only to understand how it worked, but over the years, he started to get the idea for some improvements.

It wasn’t long after he figured out how to make the vehicle fly that some of his boys chose to borrow it: first the twins and Ron for the purpose of liberating Harry from his aunt and uncle’s home; and then later, Harry and Ron, to get themselves to Hogwarts after missing the train. Arthur’s first reaction was to be thrilled that the experiment had worked (it was quite a bit more industrious than he’d ever tried to do before), though as Molly pointed out, it was clearly very wrong for the boys to take the car - yes, of course.

He was soon given much larger things to worry about when the school came under attack by the Heir of Slytherin, and Ginny was almost killed during. This deepened Arthur’s fatherly love for Harry after the boy's successful efforts to save her, and also cemented his hatred of Lucius Malfoy after learning it was he who had put Ginny in harm’s way in the first place.

He didn’t have long to enjoy the relief after that bit of danger passed though, for news of Sirius Black’s escape was soon to follow. He spent the summer following the buzz around the Ministry, which was how he came to learn of Harry’s incident literally blowing up his aunt and his subsequent escape to the Leaky Cauldron. The Weasleys came to find him there just before school started. He and Molly had a disagreement over whether or not Harry should be told of his godfather’s escape. Arthur decided that the boy needed to know; but when he went to tell him, he discovered that Harry had already overheard the argument and knew at least some of the details.

He anxiously waited out the rest of the year, following carefully both the reported news in the Daily Prophet, and the scuttlebutt around the Ministry. Much to his relief, everyone made it through the term in one piece. But already the signs are showing, and Arthur has seen enough in his lifetime to know that the danger hasn’t passed.

Personality

The lovable, open-minded, hard-working family man...

Family First - Above and beyond anything else, Arthur puts his family first. He will put his own happiness and safety on the line time and again to make sure that his family, and those whom he views as being as good as family, are safe and happy. He is extremely proud of his large brood.

Lacks Ambition - Arthur is not a very ambitious sort, which has left his family not so well off financially. Considering his capabilities and how well liked he is around the Ministry, he could have worked his way into a much higher-ranking position, but never saw the need. He likes his job, and he knows he's good at it. While the extra money would be nice, they get by.

Muggle Fascination - Arthur is utterly fixated on Muggles and Muggle inventions. He doesn't really understand them at all, but he spends a great deal of his time trying to figure them out. His fascination is to the point of being just a little bit crazy, but it's benign and well-intentioned as he absolutely adores Muggles in his odd way. However, this can lead to him doing slightly questionable things like leaving loopholes in his own laws so that he can indulge his curiosity without technically breaking the rules.

Absent-Minded - Perhaps due to his obsessions or perhaps just because it is the way he is, Arthur is often a bit distracted. He can sometimes lose sight of what's actually going on when he gets carried away by his fixations.

Impetuous - Though he is generally very laid-back and easy-going, Arthur, like so many Gryffindors, does have an impetuous streak in him. When stakes are high enough, he will not hesitate before jumping into the heat of battle or seizing an opportunity when it arises.

Good-Natured - Maybe one of the things Arthur is best known for is his good nature. He is difficult to anger or upset, and spends most of his time in a generally happy state, quite content with his lot in life: he doesn't sweat the small stuff.

Friendly - Along with his good nature, Arthur is also friendly to almost everyone, with a few notable exceptions. But it takes quite a lot to earn his animosity, and his default is to be quite friendly and open to all he meets. He can chat easily with nearly anyone, and takes a genuine interest in them.

Loving - Arthur loves with his whole heart, in every meaning of the word. He has tremendous familial love, romantic love, platonic love… He loves his friends, his co-workers, the Wizarding race in general, Muggles, the London Underground, a good pint in good company. This leaves him open to getting hurt, of course, but he would be the first to say that he's been extremely lucky in love.

Protective - One of the things that will promptly make Arthur's easy-going streak disappear is his powerful protective streak. If he thinks someone he cares about is being threatened, he will do all in his power to protect them. He is also very protective of those who cannot protect themselves, such as Muggles.

Brave - Probably the key trait that saw him placed into Gryffindor, Arthur is brave without hesitation. He will do whatever needs to be done in order to protect those he loves or save the Wizarding world from danger. His only thought is for the safety of his family and those who are unable to protect themselves. He doesn't take stupid risks, but given any good reason, he will jump right into the fray.

Open-Minded - Unlike many purebloods, Arthur judges people only by their actions. He doesn't give a thought to blood-status or whether someone is considered a half-breed, a freak, or somehow 'different'. He doesn't brook with preconceived notions and, unless he feels extremely strongly about it, is also usually able to quickly change his opinion if something arises to indicate he was wrong about someone.

Lacking Authority - Despite being the patriarch of a large and very rowdy brood, Arthur is usually an extremely permissive father. He has a hard time chastising his children, and this can lead to things getting out of hand when Molly isn't around to quickly put an end to their shenanigans.

Buried Temper - Fun, friendly, easy-going - this is the Arthur that the world sees most of the time. But his long fuse can give way to quite a temper when someone manages to push one of his few buttons. When he explodes, it can be quite a thing.

Earnest - Not to say Arthur doesn't have a few hidden depths, but generally, with him, what you see is what you get. He prefers to be upfront with people, and he will usually tell it as it is.

Over-Enthusiastic - Perhaps an off-shoot of loving things so completely, Arthur has a tendency to get utterly carried away when dealing with something that interests him - most notably Muggle-things, but perhaps even the size of the Weasley family could be seen in this light.

Virtuous - Arthur is a man of scruples, in the sincerest and most literal sense of the word. He believes in things 100% and then stands by them unwaveringly. He cannot be bought, bribed, frightened or tortured into doing something that goes against his moral code. This doesn't mean he won't break rules or laws, but he would have an extremely hard time breaking the ones he sets for himself.

Devoted - As he believes in his principles, Arthur also believes in people 100%. He will stand by his family no matter what. He will stand by Dumbledore, even against his employer, even when it puts his livelihood at risk. When he believes in someone, it is very, very hard to shake that faith.

Hard-Worker - Although the pay isn't great, Arthur loves his job and works hard at it, always putting in an honest day's work. He takes the task seriously, even if some view it as a joke.

Can't Buy Me Love - Though he would surely love to be able to buy his children and wife anything they desire, money just doesn't rank that high on his list of priorities. He isn't a man who measures his own success by the size of his vault at Gringotts, but rather by how much he loves and is loved.

Champion for the Underdog - Whether cause or effect of his love of Muggles, Arthur has always been a bit of a champion for those he feels are at less of an advantage. This especially applies to Muggles, but can also extend to children, and those the Ministry targets, such as half-breeds.

Description

Arthur is a tall, thin, bespectacled man who is beginning to bald. What hair remains is still that characteristic shade of Weasley red, parted on the side and kept respectably short. His nose and ears are a bit large for his head, but while he may not have aged quite as gracefully as some others, he generally looks very friendly and pleasant, with a quick grin and warm blue eyes.

His robes are all old and worn, suffering from various degrees of shabbiness, though they are usually well cared for. Other than a wedding band, he has no jewellery of note.

Molly	Wife	The love of his life. Arthur met her at Hogwarts and married her right after graduation. Though they may have their disagreements, Arthur loves her dearly and would do anything for her.
Bill	Son	The eldest son always holds a special place with his father. Arthur has always given him more responsibility than the younger ones, and is exceedingly proud to see that he has grown into such a capable young man.
Charlie	Son	With Charlie out of the country most of the time, Arthur doesn't get to see his second-born as much as he would like. Still, he knows Charlie is doing good work, and keeps in touch as much as their busy schedules will allow.
Percy	Son	Of all his children, things are perhaps most strained between Arthur and Percy. While he can certainly roll with the crazy antics of the others, he can't quite understand Percy's need for the status quo. Still, he loves Percy no less, and is just as proud of his accomplishments.
Fred & George	Sons	While the twins give him the hardest time, he's usually rather amused by their zany stunts. Arthur only really disapproves when the put others at real risk with them, which of course makes them the ones with whom he most often loses his temper. He hopes (perhaps in vain) that they will find their calling and settle down as they become older, but he doesn't tend to fret too much about it.
Ron	Son	His youngest son. Arthur does tend to find his attention more taken up by the others and thus, Ron can sometimes get overlooked, which Arthur doesn't always realize. He loves Ron every bit as much as the rest of his children, and is especially proud of how the young boy has risen to the challenge of being Harry Potter's best friend and all that entails.
Ginny	Daughter	His darling daughter and baby of the family. Arthur sometimes sees her as a little more delicate than her brothers, as much, if not more, because of her birth order as her gender. Still, he knows his daughter is capable, and he tries not to allow himself to limit her.

OotP (former)	Comrades in Arms	Working towards a common goal, Arthur was extremely loyal to the Order and admired those who chose to fight in that war. There is a great deal of respect for his fellow members (save those who turn out to apparently be fighting for the other side). He regrets the heavy losses that their side suffered and is grateful for the sacrifices of the fallen.
Death Eaters	Enemies	One of the few things that will get Arthur (understandably) upset is a Death Eater, especially those that went free. He’d like to see them all end up in Azkaban, and wouldn’t be torn up if they ended up getting themselves killed with their evil ways. He absolutely cannot keep any sort of open mind when it comes to someone he knows to be a Death Eater (and should he?).
